I woke up this morning to the news that my book, Worried Whippet: A Book of Bravery, is available for only £6.59 on Amazon today. It’s amazing news: big discounts typically indicate books that are strong sellers and so many of you have bought it already today that they’ve quadrupled the available stock. It’s got me thinking more than ever about the impact that my brave little dog has had on the world.
I wrote this book for people like me and Jess who have brave hearts but sometimes feel like small fish in a big pond. It turns out there are lots more of us than I thought and I am delighted to have found you all.
Jess’s story is one a lot of us can learn from. It’s about being kind and gentle to yourself and your friends, about seizing the opportunities life gives you and making the most of them. It’s about filling up your heart in the safety of your home and using it to fuel your courage as you venture outside. Who doesn’t need to hear that.
Almost every day I hear from someone who has read this book and wants to tell me what it means to them. I hear from people who’ve read it over and over to their kids as a bedtime story, people who’ve cried happy and sad tears over it, people who read it to their parents with dementia or their autistic teenagers or classrooms of children in schools. Every single time it blows me away.
For me, though, it will always be Anna’s illustrations that occupy the biggest place in my heart. They contain the full spectrum of Jess’s expressions and emotions. Not just the worry and fear but the joy and delight too. She captured my girl so beautifully and I will treasure them forever.
Thank you for being part of our story. You’re a wonderful bunch of humans and I am so grateful that you’ve adopted my little family into your lives. Emotionally I’m feeling a little bit lost at the moment but your messages lift me up and let me know I’m not alone. I hope Jess’s story and her book can do the same for you.
Love,
Jess the Human xxx
So pleased to hear that the book is selling well. It's a wonderful way to keep your darling girl alive in your heart and in the hearts of the thousands of people who followed her, and you, on social media. I loved following her adventures, and amazing outfits, and shed a good few tears when she passed away. As someone who has lost much loved dogs in the past, how you're still functioning, losing both Jess & Otto in such a short space of time, amazes me. You're so much stronger than you think. Sending much love. xxx
